Felting
The subject matter for this felting (wool painting) project is "Hidden corners" within the town. This theme encourages students to closely observe and artistically interpret the familiar and often overlooked details of their town. Students focus on observing the statues, trees, paths, fences and 'run down' places in their town. Students develop a deeper appreciation for their immediate natural environment. This subject matter allows students to draw inspiration from their daily surroundings, capturing the unique forms of these forgotten places through the textures and colours of wool. We discuss reasons as to why we don’t take notice of our surroundings and the distractions relevant to students (technology, stress). The project involves creating a wool painting that reflects the mundane/ earthy tones and unique forms of these hidden places.
